AC Milan defender Matteo Gabbia has recalled a funny anecdote involving Zlatan Ibrahimovic which took place during the season of the Scudetto win.

Gabbia was a guest on the second episode of ‘Unlocker Room – The Rossoneri Podcast’ and he spoke about a number of different topics including his season to this point and how he has changed as a player. You can read in full here.

Among the questioned that he answered was one about the dressing room and more specifically a humorous tale that involved Ibrahimovic and the tempting of fate a couple of years ago.

“I can tell you that we have a lot of fun in the dressing room. I have a personal anecdote about Zlatan, about the Scudetto win. It was the week before the match against Sassuolo, we were there to win but nothing was done,” he said.

“There was still that purely Italian superstition about not saying that word. Let me start by saying that I like collecting particular shirts , I have some good opponents who I have played with and who I respect. I keep them as a souvenir.

“I collect shirts, from big opponents that I come up against or that I admire. I keep a sort of collection. Ibra’s shirt, I asked for it and he signed it for me. He wrote: ‘Thank you for the Scudetto. Let’s hope!’.

“He wrote that the week before we were playing Sassuolo. I said to myself I’ll hide the shirt and hope no-one sees it!”

Milan would of course go on to win the league title by beating Sassuolo 3-0 at the Mapei Stadium in the final game of the season, thanks to a brace from Olivier Giroud and a goal from Franck Kessie.
