New York Jets Reveal Update On Zach Wilson Trade Talks
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson has not been present at the team’s voluntary offseason workouts, which is not surprising given that he has been the subject of trade rumors.

Wilson’s time with the Jets seems to be reaching its inevitable end, as Aaron Rodgers will be returning as the club’s starter after missing all but one offensive in 2023 due to injury and New York signed Tyrod Taylor to be his backup heading into next season.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas provided an update on trade talks for Wilson on Friday, saying that there is nothing really new on that front.

“Zach is an asset,” Douglas said, via SNY. “At that same time, we’re obviously open to trading Zach. There have been discussions. Nothing has really changed since we talked down in Florida. But, we’re open to trading him. There’s just no news to report on that.”

This is basically GM-speak for “yes, he’s available, but we aren’t getting any legitimate offers just yet.”

It’s hard to imagine Gang Green actually getting anything of value for Wilson.

Wilson has a $5.45 million guarantee for 2024, which is obviously scaring teams away from swinging a deal for him. One can argue that he may have negative value at this point because of the guarantee.

That’s not to say that Wilson can’t turn his career around somewhere. He is just 24 years old, after all, and everyone knows he has a cannon for an arm.

However, there is no denying that Wilson’s career has gotten off to an atrocious start.

The BYU product, who was selected by the Jets with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, has gone just 12-21 as a starter and has totaled 23 touchdowns and 25 picks. This past season, he threw for 2,271 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 60.1 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 77.2.

Zach Wilson has shown some flashes, but overall, he has been a massive disappointment.

We’ll see if the Jets can find a taker for him.
